Lee Jung Jae was picked up as a fashion model by the designer Ha Yong Soo while he was working at a café in Apgujeong, and debuted as an actor with the 1993 drama Dinosaur Teacher. He became a big star practically overnight as soon as he made his debut, and almost always was cast in lead roles after that.
In his first big screen lead role for The Young Man, the third-rate model Lee Han, he managed to leave big impressions with the public. In the same year, 1994, he made his name a household name through the hit drama Feelings.
Many other stars who ended up becoming big names such as Son Ji Chang, Kim Min Jong and Woo Hee Jin made appearances in this drama. The director of the drama at the time was director Yoon Suk Ho of Winter Sonata, and the sub-producer was Full House’s director Pyo Min Soo.
The piece that really set up Lee’s charisma was the 1995 drama Sandglass. He acted in the role of Jae Hee, who quietly stood by Go Hyun Jung’s side to protect her, and showcased his strong charisma.
He was successful in dramas, but he was more active on the big screen. In 1999 and 2000, he starred in two pieces in a row with Shim Eun Ha: The Revolt of Lee Jae Soo and Shim’s last piece before her retirement, Interview. Lee continued to star in various other films such as Typhoon, The Last Witness, Over the Rainbow and The Housemaid.
Lee worked hard, and he was given a variety of awards as a reward. In 1995 he won a string of Rookie Awards at the Daejong Film Festival, Korean Critics Choice Awards and Paeksang Arts Awards. In 1999, he won the Best Actor Award at the Korean Critics Choice Awards and the Blue Dragon Film Awards.
Charm
The one thing that hits you hard as soon as you see him is his looks. He stands tall at 180 cm, and has everything an actor could ever need and want with his balanced figure and charismatic expressions.
But his looks aren’t the only things attractive about him. Although he has a great physique, he widened his spectrum of acting by taking on various different types of roles.
He took on many charismatic roles, but in films such as Park vs. Park, Oh! Brothers and The Accidental Gangster and the Mistaken Courtesan, he showed he could be comical when he wanted to. He shocked many of his viewers with his role in the 1997 drama Snail, when he acted as a mentally challenged man whose intelligence had stopped developing when he was 11 years old.
With director Im Sang Soo’s 2010 piece The Housemaid, he was recognized for his skilled acting. He took on the role of Hoon, a man who seemed to have everything, and even made it to the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival with his partner, Jeon Do Yeon.
In 2011, he filmed director Choi Dong Hun’s new piece The Professionals, and is waiting for its premiere. He also confirmed he would be starring with Choi Min Sik and Hwang Jung Min in the film New World. Lee Jung Jae as an actor is now clearly recognized to be the joker of the pack..

Crisis
Lee was highly successful as an actor, but he led a meager career as a businessman. As he was ambitious to start up his own company, he joined forces with his best friend and fellow actor Jung Woo Sung to open up a male suit shop and underwear shop, but he had to close all of them down after just a few years.
Lee is currently in real estate development. This, however, also didn’t go by without meeting a few bumps on its way. One of those bumps was his rumors with Im Se Ryung.
Many pointed out the fact that Lee bought a building for himself in Gangnam. As it turned out, the building was right across the street from another building owned by Im. His status as a highly-wanted charming single man seems to be hindering his way to becoming a big entrepreneur.
Lee previously held a public relationship with actress Kim Min Hee for three years from 2003. No other news of his relationships came to be known after that other than the rumors surrounding him and Im.
